study

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV

I appreciate time this year, after the successful season two premiere of New Day LIVE! in March (listen to the episode here), to focus on Lent and to journey with Christ to the cross, reflecting on my own sin and being grateful for my Savior’s great sacrifice. Then Easter celebration and resurrection day came wherein we praised our Lord for renewed hearts, expressing joy over being raised with Christ from the dead of our sins. I pray you, too, have had a blessed time with God as you read Scripture, fasted, and gave thanks for salvation.

Since Easter, I’ve appreciated focused time post-celebration, jumping back into Bible study with increased desire for God’s Word. I was led to a study OF study and took my time with Priscilla Shirer’s teaching on Bible Study Methods, which you can find here on YouTube. It’s mostly a study of the Word for the purpose of then sharing the Word with others, but she doesn’t neglect stressing the importance of study for personal growth. Priscilla provides great tools and resources for message preparation for those of us who write, speak, or do otherwise for the kingdom. It’s worth the time. Her main point is just that: that the goal is to point others to Jesus—it’s not about us or gaining followers or likes. The Word is to be shared, not as a self-help book so others can know themselves, but so they/we can know God.

Part of my assignment through New Day is to equip you with tools you need to grow in the faith and share it with others, hence my highlight of Priscilla’s Methods above. Intentional study of God’s Word is a must for believers committed to Christ. And so, along with Priscilla’s resource, here are a few more Bible study aids to help you build a strong practice of being in God’s Word—with intentionality, with hunger, and the desire to know Him better.

Professor and author Dr. Telika McCoy provides weekly Bible teaching, broadcast through Facebook, and offering an in-depth look at the Scriptures. You can find her on Facebook to join live each Thursday evening at 7:00 EST, or view the recordings on her YouTube page here.

Kim Cash Tate shares a video from her plethora of teachings on her YouTube channel on her personal methods for diving into the Word. How I Study the Bible: 10 Essentials can be accessed here.

I pray these and other resources in your own toolbox get and keep you excited for God and His Word. And share in the comments other aids you’ve found helpful. Be blessed until next time.

Congratulations Melchee on season two! What a blessing.
I also saw Priscilla’s worshop. It was powerful, and so informative. I also picked up a few of her suggested resources; and of course Kim Cash-Tate, who I’ve followed for the past seven years, is always a blessing.
I will make a point to tune into the others. My goal is to grow roots deeper in Christ this year.

    Best wishes to you.
