There’s a plethora of resources available for Christian writers for help with producing God-breathed masterpieces. From conferences and trainings and even the basics of thesauruses and Bible dictionaries, there’s no shortage of aid. The following list, however, goes a little deeper, and aims for, well, Holy Ghost-level essentials. Ready?
-salvation | First and foremost, and maybe this goes without saying, but Christian writing is rooted in one’s own personal relationship and walk with the Lord. Take time to examine, with God, the gift of salvation.
-the Word | No need to dive too deep here, except to encourage you to dive deep. When you stay in the Word, the Word stays in you. Your book/blog/social media words flow from your grounding in THE Word. Don’t let time slip when it comes to the importance of reading and study.
-a true heart to write to help others | God has given the mandate: Love your neighbor as yourself. Your “neighbor” is counting on your work to make a difference in their life. Folks need help—the world is desperately crying out for its Savior. Ask God to light the fire in you to bring the fire to them. Hallelujah! It’s not just about you. Keep your readers in mind as you’re writing. How can they know Christ through your words?
-stay righteous and holy, worthy of the calling to which you’ve been called | Observe all that the Lord has commanded. See Joshua 1.
-network of fellow believers | Prayer partners, writer friends, etc., are essential in helping your writing journey. They can offer support when needed and can be your biggest cheerleaders, on and off the page. Don’t forget to do also unto them.
-excellent greatness | The Word speaks of this in Psalm 150: Praise Him for His excellent greatness. Because it’s an attribute of God’s, so can it be for you. Ask the Lord for excellence in your work.
-other books and writings | Your favorite authors can help you in your own work with content that inspires or even helps with the structures and nuances of deeper writing. I keep several books on my writing shelf that I turn to often, just to see how they said this or that—not to copy, obviously, but to learn.
-fasting and praying | Don’t neglect these generally, but focus these disciplines in your writing. Ask the Lord for direction in both practices and watch His certainty manifest. He never fails.
-praise and . . .
-worship | God wants to be in fellowship with you and wants a heart open to the words He desires to impart. Receive His invitation to be Father through worship and adoration and celebratory praise. Be in awe of His goodness bestowed to you.
Well, there you have it! We pray these “10” help you in your writing journey as you seek to bless others out of His abundance to you!
